Parapnea Cuba Bienale 2001
The induction was carried out in English and Spanish so that the two groups would not receive contradictory instructions. The volunteers drawing on the balloons were the "engineers," and were asked to imagine structures found in the depths of the unconscious. The balloons were then handed off to the "divers," hence the title: Para-Apnea (para = having resemblance to certain features apnea = absence of breathing), who retrieved the visualized structures from the depths of the "engineers" unconscious.
Performed at the house of Marcos Castillo of Los Carpinteros.
